Oklahoma United reached the semi-finals of the Over 55 Veterans Cup held in Bellingham, Washington July 17-22. Joining the Northeastern Oklahoma Adult Soccer squad were four players from Central Oklahoma Adult Soccer League. The team reached the semi-finals after a victory over Washinton State 5-0 and tying North Texas 2-2. The third match of group play featured a 5-0 drubbing of a Boston squad. Their quarter final foe was North Carolina and the Oklahomans defeated them 3-1 to advance to the semis where they fell to Reflections from Washington state 1-0.
Six women from NEOASA traveled to the Veterans Cup to play for the Michigan United team. All six players are from the Good Vibrations squad: Boni Franklin, Anita Henderson, Brenda Locke, Lynda Riggs, Elaine Simpson, and Londa Tanner.
Damon Fell commented on the games:
"Midway through the 1st half we gave up a free kick against the Reflections from Washington . The kick was at the top of the penalty box and Alan Hinton bent the kick over our wall an into the upper corner for a goal. We played most of the game in their half but could not put one in the net. The final score was 1-0 and the Washington team lost in the finals to the Golden State Oldies from Northern California 7-1."
"A grand time was had by all and as one of the Boston players said next year teams will look at the bracket and say, ’Damn we have to play Oklahoma.’"
