Introduction
With the desire to meet the needs and demands of today’s youth soccer coach, Oklahoma Soccer Association has established our comprehensive Coach Education Program.
Under the guidance and direction of the United States Soccer Association, US Youth Soccer, and Peter McGahey, Oklahoma Soccer Association Director of Coaching and Player Development, our coaching course curriculum was designed to provide all coaches regardless of past experience or playing ability information on the modern methods of coaching/teaching youth soccer.
The Oklahoma Soccer Association Coach Education Program offers several levels of training. These levels flow directly from our state-coaching license requirements, where each coach in Oklahoma is required to have an age specific coaching certificate/license. These requirements are based on the principle that ‘OUR’ Oklahoma players will develop the best when coached by knowledgeable coaches.
Our courses will provide current and modern coaching/teaching theory and methodology. The courses will all involve both classroom and field sessions and the curriculum will be based on the philosophy that children learn to play soccer the best by playing soccer and soccer related games.
The Oklahoma Soccer Association Coach Education Program is a progressive learning environment where the soccer concepts and materials can be mastered and applied by anyone with an open mind who enjoys working with children.
Objectives
The objectives of the Oklahoma Soccer Association Coach Education Program are:
- • Conduct all coaching education activities with the philosophy ‘children learn soccer the best by playing soccer and soccer related games’.
- • Educate ALL coaches in Oklahoma regardless of soccer background.
- • Enhance the development of ALL Oklahoma players by providing current soccer coaching/teaching information.
- • Make the experience of youth soccer more enjoyable for both coaches and players.
- • Promote the GAME OF SOCCER!
Serve as a preparation vehicle for coaches who desire to continue their coaching education at a National level.
