NOTE TO TEAMS: SEASON DEADLINE EXTENDED
As you are aware, the weather has not been very cooperative in the last few weeks. The Competitive Committee has decided to extend the OPL and OCL season through May 17, 2015. Some things to keep in mind with this extension are field availability and referee availability. The original season was due to end prior to the large spring tournaments and Presidents/State Cup beginning, now that we are running into these larger events please keep in mind that dates and referees will be in high demand. Prior to submitting your reschedule request it would be a good idea to look at your facilities schedule to ensure you are not asking for a reschedule on a tournament date. OSA will review and determine as to whether a reschedule request can be met. Below are a couple of suggestions that can help facilitate easier scheduling:
- 1. Move same side games to an evening night.
- 2. If you need to travel, try to get in two games
if possible - a morning and an afternoon
game may work.
- 3. The comment box on the reschedule form
does NOT guarantee that the request can
- 4. Check out the OSA website to find dates for
upcoming tournaments to avoid conflicts.
- 5. The extended season is only for games
currently postponed due to weather/and or
future weather related closures.
Please feel free to contact any of the OSA staff if we can be of assistance, we appreciate your patience as we work towards the more enjoyable spring weather. Since we are not yet there, please stay safe over the next couple of days!

Travel During Severe Weather - Safety to our members is always our top priority at OSA. Due to the potential for severe weather in every season, please check with the complex where you are scheduled to play to ensure that it is open. If it is not safe to travel please contact your opponent as early as possible for information and site situation. Clubs should consider contacting opponents who are traveling to forewarn them of complex closures or time/field changes due to severe weather conditions. Referee assignors should be informed of any changes to schedules due to severe weather conditions. Good luck on the pitch and please be safe.
From the OPL League Policies concerning game cancellation due to weather:
B. Temperature – in consideration that the League is a fall extended season that plays through the winter months, the follow guidelines will be used to determine if a game can be cancelled based on the current mean temperature at the start of play:
1. 40 degrees or above – The match will play as scheduled, if a team decides not to play then the result will be recorded as a forfeit (3-0) and team forfeits their bond.
2. 20-39 degrees - Game may be played if both teams and OSA deem appropriate. Any of the three parties can "veto" playing and the game will be rescheduled.
3. 19 degrees or below – Game(s) will be postponed.
C. In the event of diminished playing circumstances (rain, cold, etc.) if the complex remains open and the referee declares the field conditions safe for play, the teams/coach do not have the authority, even by mutual agreement to reschedule the match. Failure to play the match will result in a review by the LOC and the match may be declared a forfeit or double forfeit.
