USSF News Announcement




Oklahoma City, OK. (December 22, 2016) – Oklahoma Soccer Association Executive Director Sid Goodrich is pleased to announce that OSA has entered into a partnership with United States Futsal, the governing body for Futsal in the United States. United States Futsal (USFF) has been governing the sport of Futsal in the United States since 1981. 


Futsal (Five-a-Side Soccer) is "The Way the World Plays Indoor Soccer" and is the international form of indoor soccer approved by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).  It is played in all continents of the world by over 100 countries with 12 million players. As USFF’s exclusive representative in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Soccer Association will be responsible for sanctioning Futsal league and tournament play, player and coach registration and a USFF State Championship beginning on March 1, 2017. Oklahoma State Champions will be crowned in youth age groups and will move on to USFF Regional and National Championships. Additionally, the Oklahoma Coaching Education Department will offer clinics and courses throughout the year to help educate Oklahoma member coaches on the technical and tactical aspects of Futsal.

This agreement furthers our goal to partner with all State Soccer Associations, and it also now makes Oklahoma Soccer Association the State Governing Body of all disciplines of FIFA (Soccer, Futsal, and Beach Soccer) to the benefit of all players.”


### About the Oklahoma Soccer Association –– The Oklahoma Soccer Association (OSA) is the National State Association under the US Soccer and members of US Youth Soccer and US Adult Soccer. OSA was established in 1968 as a not-for-profit organization that serves over 48,000 members statewide and include over 5000 volunteers and 2000 referees. As a member of US Youth Soccer, they are part of the family of 3.2 million youth players and is one of twelve state associations that comprise Region III with 625,000 members. OSA is in their 49th year of providing safe and enjoyable athletic competition for ages players 4-74. Programs consist of Recreational, Competitive, Academy leagues in 85 youth clubs and 12 adult leagues through Oklahoma. OSA offers specialize programs such as TOPSoccer for physically and mentally challenged players and Soccer Across America for new intercity and rural areas. Oklahoma has hosted the US Youth National Championship Tournament in 2015, the US Youth National President’s Cup Tournament in 2016 and be will be hosting the US Youth Region III President’s Cup Regional Tournament in 2017.  Oklahoma also has 39 members in the Oklahoma Soccer Hall of Fame established in 2001 and includes US Soccer National Team player Joe Max Moore.

Without the use of walls, futsal is a great skill-developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pin-point passing.  It is an exciting game for children and adults. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Maradona, Ronaldo and Messi grew up playing the game and credit Futsal with developing their skills.  Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, requiring players to use their skills, rather than the ball's bounce, to propel it.
